Where to buy CDs cheaply?

I'm new to the Cluas forums but just saw some interesting stuff on some of the boards that got me thinking. How do y'all get your hands on cheap music? On my odd visit to the US I used love paying a visit to http://www.streetlightrecords.com// (a new & used place with great prices) - i would literally come home with a suitcase of CDs. Anyway I see The_Thin_Man mentioning picking up some great older irish cds on www.amazon.com for $1 or $2, eoghan talked about using www.ebay.co.uk and QsySue has used www.half.com. I have only ever used amazon or www.cdwow.ie to buy new cds. Does anyone have any other good tips on buying music (new & used) online? Those second hand prices mentioned are great but are the shipping costs double the price of the cd? Is it possible to buy a few cds and get them shipped together? What about customs duties? Are there any easy ways of finding interesting stuff at those crazy prices other than searching for artist names? I am a bit of a browser, my tastes are indie but they cross over to jazz, blues, soundtracks, etc and if the price is right would like to buy stuff on cd that i already have on vinyl or but stuff by older artists that i don't own.

Well I've never had to pay customs costs when I buy in from the US, which is quite regularly. When you buy in from the US, all that is counted as the value of the package is the goods inside. The postage costs are not counted in the full costs. When the person or company sending the items to you fills out their green customs form, they only fill out the total costs of the goods ordered, not the postage costs. Usually try to stick within the boundaries that the revenue people say, that is about 45 EURO ($48-50) and they won't charge you customs for that. But I say if you ordered well above that limit say over $100 then you may be liable to customs charges. Just post in another question if you want to ask me anything else. Cheers, Jay

Have to recommend www.djangomusic.com where one can build a wishlist and/or get notifications when used stuff comes in at cheaper prices. Just ordered 12 albums for 60 dollars in there 2.88 sale and postage is only 2 dollars each, much cheaper than amazon.com or ebay. I also use jay and maries one cent cds ebay shop and they ship without jewel case for 3.90 for the first cd and 1.60 for any subsequent ones within a seven day period. I now buy 90 percent of my albums online. ----------------- isaac butts eclectic ballroom 9 - late with yours truly djing tonight.

Thanks Jay D. I see the topic of http://www.cluas.com/discussion/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2563 has come up before. I do use Amazon, CDWOW, play.com but the idea of buying second hand online wasn't something I'd considered. I'd be interested in hearing how people use eBay, is it simply by browsing or can you set up wishlists of interesting artists etc?

Hello sweetie, http://www.djangomusic.com looks interesting and sounds like you're picking up some bargains there, hopefully you won't have to pay any customs duties. I also tracked down http://stores.ebay.com/Maries-CDs-And-Online-Auctions-LLC_W0QQsspagenameZl2QQtZkm which also looks very promising.
